Description by the author

Cycle route around the former German-Italian airfield from World War II. It came into the spotlight of the programme maker Sven Speybrouck who made the beautiful series "Public Secret". And you can see numerous buildings along this tour that have something to do with this curious history.

You can still see the Italian inscription 'Vietato Fumare' in a barn that dates from 1940. In World War II, the barn was a hangar and the surrounding farmyard an airfield built by Italians to help their allies the Germans in the 'Battle of Britain': Aeroporto Urano. And this cycle route is named after this story.

The route runs largely along the cycle junction network, but take an extra road here and there to better see the former airport.
