Hageland panoramic walk between Bekkevoort and Waanrode

The strongly hilly landscape of the eastern Hageland is one of the most attractive in Flanders. In this 17 km long walk, we almost continuously stroll over hill ridges with distant views and intimate little valleys. From Bekkevoort, we immediately ascend to the Molenberg along the old road from Mechelen to Sint-Truiden. At the top, we are greeted with an unparalleled 360-degree panorama showcasing, among other things, the basilica of Scherpenheuvel and even the spoil tip of Beringen. Then we descend into the deep valley of the Begijnenbeek and climb the Hermansheuvel. On that impressive hill, thousands of artifacts from the Middle Neolithic Michelsberg culture were found.
The route now climbs to the long ridge that separates Bekkevoort from Waanrode. Here, you feel as free as a bird, with a view on all sides extending to Scherpenheuvel on your right and Waanrode on your left. Through a narrow valley, we now arrive at the wetland area around the Pijnbeek, leading us to the unremarkable village of Wersbeek. Once again, we climb a range of hills, that of the Wijndriesberg and Veertigbunders. Among the vast fruit orchards, we are treated to vistas in all directions, ultimately ending back on the Staatsbaan in Bekkevoort.
