Station As - purple - 10.1 km

Until 2017, gravel was extracted north and south of the Coal Road. After that, the area was landscaped by the Restructuring Committee (now Gravel Committee) before being returned to nature. The area is named after the boulder nearby that marks the boundary between the former municipalities of Lanklaar, Niel-bij-As, and Mechelen-aan-de-Maas.
Between the area 'Aan de Windelsteen' and the Rouwmortelven lies Bosheide, which has truly earned its name. You will find open heath, heath with tree regeneration, to fully wooded heath. An ideal habitat for the tree lark, tree pipit, and butterflies such as the brown oak butterfly. Red heather also occurs here. This is a threatened plant in Flanders and has its main growing site here in the Hoge Kempen National Park.
You also pass by the Rouwmortelven. This beautiful heath pond is a chosen spot for plants of the 'wet heath': cotton grass, heather, and the carnivorous sundew. It is a habitat for dragonflies and amphibians, including several very rare species (heath frog, smooth newt, bog white-faced darner).
