The route continues to the Grootbroek, a forest reserve of the Agency for Nature and Forest. This 'broek' was an inaccessible place for centuries. Several smuggling routes ran through it, and the 'broek' and the forests were a hideout for escaped prisoners of war during World War II. The wettest areas were spared from exploitation, allowing you to enjoy the peace and space in one of the quietest spots in Limburg. The abundant presence of water makes the Stramprooierbroek and the adjacent nature areas the richest dragonfly area in the Benelux. But also for many plants, butterflies such as the large mirror butterfly, and other animals, the Stramprooierbroek is a paradise on earth. So there are plenty of reasons to put on your boots and discover the treasures of this area.
