You start at the church of Hoelbeek. Nestled in the wooded surroundings of Hoelbeek lies the ruin of the fort of Jonckholt. What remains of this post-medieval fortification are the four clearly recognizable corner towers that formed part of the defensive line and the unique double ditch system. You also walk through the Groenendaal domain forest, an ancient deciduous forest with common ash, European bird cherry and spring flowers such as wood anemone and slender primrose. Additionally, you pass through Kempen oak-birch forests with ground elder, lily of the valley, and who knows, you might even spot the middle spotted woodpecker.
