Munsterbos - purple - 17.9 km

The nature reserve Hoefaert is managed by the nature association Orchis. It is located on the last foothills (to the west) of the Kempen Plateau. The great variety of different types of forests, meadows, old fish ponds, ponds, and the fast-flowing Munsterbeek, which cuts deeply into the landscape, make this area very valuable both scenically and biologically. Along the Munsterbeek, the beaver has felt at home for several years and builds spectacular dams.
The ponds of the Munsterbos are the favored territory for wetland birds, such as the bluethroat and the water rail. The bittern comes here in winter to search for food. The woodlark, tree pipit, European robin, and the viviparous lizard find the ideal habitat in the heath relics. The honey buzzard, sparrowhawk, buzzard, and hobby are breeding birds.
The Bonijterbos is part of the Munster Valley. This area is particularly important for birds of prey and woodland birds.
