The Romans left their mark not only on the city center of Tongeren. Even in the wider surroundings, you can still find witnesses in the landscape from Roman times. A seemingly natural ridge (the Beukenberg) that you walk over is a monumental earthwork that was part of the aqueduct that supplied the Roman city of Tongeren with water. You pass a Roman burial mound and remaining sections of the city walls from the 2nd century. Furthermore, the castle estate of Betho is on the menu and you walk through characteristic Haspengouw landscapes with rolling fields, meadows, orchards, and hollow roads.
