The dunes area In den Brand owes its name to the woodcutting. People from Hechtel-Eksel used to come here to collect their firewood. These walking routes form a breathtaking journey through the largest sandbox in Flanders, along high dunes and through beautiful deciduous forests.
Children are free to play in the sand or climb wooden giant insects! This route is a small but excellent introduction to this lovely spot in Bosland. Children can let loose in the largest natural sandbox in Flanders, but the quiet forest paths are also fun to explore. Be sure to notice the many types of mosses and lichens.
With your dog on a leash, you are, of course, very welcome in this walking area. Want to let your dog run freely in the woods? Then there is the brand new dog off-leash area of 2 hectares. The area is completely fenced and located in a forest section close to the dunes of In den Brand. There are two separate zones: one for large dogs and one for smaller dogs.
Feeling hungry after all that walking? No worries, at the starting point, you will find a large picnic area where you can satisfy your small and large appetites while enjoying the greenery. At the picnic area, you will find unique wooden playground equipment in the shape of insects found in the area. This way, your child can get acquainted with the green sand beetle, the bastard sand beetle, the red wood ant, and the heath butterfly.
