In the Fire - blue - 4.4 km

The dune area owes its name to the logging; in the past, the people of Hechtel-Eksel came here to collect firewood. Today, the hiking trails offer a breathtaking journey through the largest sandbox in Flanders, along high dunes and through beautiful deciduous forests. Children can play to their heart's content in the sand or climb on wooden giant insects. Dogs are of course welcome in this walking area, provided they are on a leash. Want to let your dog run free for a while? There is a 2-hectare dog off-leash zone, fully fenced and located in a piece of forest near the dunes of 'In den Brand'. There are separate zones for large and small dogs. After all that walking, you can visit the large picnic area at the starting point to satisfy your hunger while enjoying the greenery. At the picnic area, you will find fun wooden play structures in the shape of insects that occur in the area. Get to know the green sand beetle, the bastard sand beetle, the red forest ant, and the heath butterfly.
