Zig and Goort - yellow - 6.8 km

You will encounter the monument of the propeller blade from the Second World War. The Zig is a very attractive area with 17 hectares of ponds with reed edges and marsh zones. It was once part of an extensive marshland along the Belgian-Dutch border. From the birdwatching hut on the edge of the area, you have a chance to discover one of the residents such as the water rail or the bluethroat. But the Zig is also a true paradise for dragonflies like the emerald dragonfly and the metallic-winged dragonfly.
Other routes in this walking area will lead you through the Goort. In the course of the 20th century, the wet meadows of the Goort were largely planted with poplars. In 2003 and 2004, significant works were carried out to make this area more attractive for visitors, but also for plants and animals. The poplars are making way for oaks, birches, and alders. Paths and bridges provide better accessibility. Thanks to boardwalks, you can step into nature without wet feet.
