Aldeneik - green - 2.7 km

This is the smallest loop of the Aldeneik walking area. During this walk, you will get to know the remarkable past of this charming village by the Meuse. Street names, buildings, and monuments take you back to the time when Harlindis and Relindis, daughters of Aderhard and Grinnara, performed all kinds of wonders. They established a monastic community and received a visit from the missionary bishop Willibrord. In 870, Harlindis and Relindis were canonized. Their relics are still venerated and celebrated today, including a procession that travels through the streets of Maaseik and Aldeneik every 25 years.
The walk also takes you around the Heerenlaak pond. Gravel was extracted here until 2002. After that, the area was redesigned with two campsites, a marina, and a sandy beach. You will also see the Bosbeek, which flows into the Meuse.
