Discover all benefitsThe gravel route Ledegem in a nutshell
Start at the Ledegemse Meersen, a beautiful provincial domain where you are immediately immersed in a calming meadow landscape.
There are sufficient parking spaces at the church of Ledegem. From there, follow the path along the Heulebeek towards the Ledegemse Meersen.
Another parking area is located on Papestraat. From there, you can access the meadow area via the Kezelberg route.
Restrooms and showers: There are no public sanitary facilities available in the vicinity of the provincial domain. For a restroom break, you can visit one of the cafés in the center of Ledegem.
Catering: At the starting point in Ledegem, there is the restaurant 'Hof Ter Emstrode'. From the terrace, you have a beautiful view over the Ledegemse Meersen and the adjacent fishing pond.
Halfway along the route, you will pass Café Kaasdaele in Moorslede, an ideal spot for a break with a piece of cake or a croque monsieur.
Nature: After leaving the provincial domain in Ledegem, the route heads towards the Bergmolenbos where woodland and heath landscapes alternate. A little further, you will pass nature reserve De Kleiputten, a former clay pit that is now teeming with biodiversity. After that, you will cross the Sterrebos in Rumbeke, the green lung of Roeselare.
Sporty: Between the unpaved Kezelberg route and the Stroroute – a forgotten railway line between Roeselare and Ypres from the war years – there are several gravel stretches. On the way back, you will follow a varied route of quiet paved and unpaved roads that will bring you back to Ledegem via Dadizele.
Extras: At the Ledegemse Meersen, you will find cozy picnic spots and a play forest where children can play freely. From this location, various walking routes also depart.
At the cemetery in Dadizele, more than a thousand British soldiers and aviators are buried. Fallen soldiers from the First World War also rest at the Kezelberg and Ledeghem Military Cemeteries.
