You walk through heritage landscape the park of Brasschaat. The domain originated in the 18th century, when the Helhoeve was converted into a court of plaisance. It was located approximately where the ponds with fountains in front of the current castle are today. This castle was built in 1872 by Armand Reusens, former mayor of Brasschaat and is now a popular place for wedding parties. The Peerdsbos is one of the oldest forests of Antwerp. The 149-hectare forest is a unique habitat for various species of birds, bats, butterflies and deer. Here live and breed black woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker, jay, nuthatch, tree creeper, chiffchaff and fitis. Part of this forest is therefore closed to the general public.
Want to hike a little further? Then extend your trek to park Vordenstein. The park is a feast for the senses. You can enjoy rare trees, wide majestic avenues, open grassland and ponds. The restored orangery, orangery garden and wrought-iron entrance gates add to the park's cachet. Park Vordenstein is an oasis of peace and tranquility, ideal for dreaming away! The walled orangery garden is more than worth a visit.
