This short walk goes partly through the forest and partly along hay meadows. The entire route is equipped with a semi-paved surface, making it accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
For a long time, the Herkenrode forests were one of the best-kept secrets of Hasselt. This area used to be owned by the abbey of Herkenrode, hence the name. Now, walkers can enjoy this patchwork of old and young forest, fields, and meadows. Landscape elements such as hedges, wooded edges, pollarded trees, and ponds add extra variety. The Agency for Nature and Forest ensures proper management. In spring, spring bloomers shoot up from the ground. In autumn, the lush summer green transforms into warm autumn colors. Children and young people can let loose in the large nature play area.
