Behind a double row of dunes by the North Sea lies a landscape like no other: The Moeren. It is the largest contiguous polder area in Flanders, located below sea level and without a village core. Here, the wind has free rein in the reed beds, light is reflected on the ditches, and the horizon seems endless.

Surrounding this tranquil waterland are three charming villages of Veurne: Bulskamp, Beauvoorde, and Houtem. Through the fields of these agricultural villages once flowed the tidal creek De Kolme. The Kolmeland harbors a wealth of protected heritage: village vistas, churches, rectories, farms, and castles. These testify to a rich past and an economic prosperity based on agriculture, sheep farming, peat extraction, and grain mills, rooted in hard work, perseverance, and faith.

During the walk, you will discover three types of landscapes shaped either by natural forces or by human intervention since the last ice age: the drained Moeren, the polder with relief inversion around Bulskamp, and the gently rolling sand plateau of Beauvoorde and Houtem.

The route takes you through landscapes where water, wind, and the inhabitants over the centuries have written history together. Enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the coastline to the West Flemish hill ridges from the plateau.
