Through the pearl of the county - with Trou du Nou Maulin

To understand the center of Rochefort, you need to grasp the heart of the Famenne, and especially of the Calestienne, a long, narrow strip along the Ardennes. The Famenne is characterized by its gentle relief, a patchwork of forests, meadows, fields, and watercourses, the result of an age-old influence of humans on the environment. This walk explores the city and follows two main traffic arteries and an avenue that are also mentioned on the Ferraris map. The loop touches all places with a story: from the Church of Our Lady of the Visitation through the Malle-Poste to the town hall, from the Place du Roi Albert I to the Square Crépin, from the Trou du Nou Maulin and the Lorette cave to the Cabaret des Roches mural, from the former Carmelite convent to the lower part of the castle that towers high on the rock above the city – which you can visit afterward if you make an appointment. And finally, from the Place La Fayette to the Allée des Tilleuls. While heritage and history may be the common thread during the walk, don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful forests and meadows around the city. The countryside of the Famenne will surely delight many a walker!
