Bomal: The rocks, the castle, and terraces in the center

You leave directly from the train station of Bomal.

Part 1: The climb to the panorama Rochers du Calvaire
Leave the center of Bomal behind and do not cross the Ourthe yet. Cross the railway and turn immediately to the right towards the impressive rock formations Rochers du Calvaire. On your right side, you will see the railway tracks with the Ourthe behind them.
After a few minutes of walking, you turn left into the forest. Along a steep, adventurous and challenging forest path, you steadily climb up the hillside. It takes some effort, but soon you are rewarded with the ultimate climax. Here, at the large cross at the top, the forest opens up and you are face to face with a fantastic panoramic view over the Ourthe valley and the miniature village of Bomal at your feet.

Part 2: Rolling along the water
After enjoying the view, you continue along the wooded ridge via a much gentler and wider path. This larger loop through the greenery takes you back down into the valley via a knee-friendly descent.
Once at the bottom, you reach the quiet bank of the Ourthe via a pedestrian tunnel under the tracks. Take the bridge over the river (at the water treatment plant) and immediately turn left onto the walking path along the other bank. You walk back towards the center on the flat path along the babbling water, with the wooded rocky walls now on your right side.

Part 3: The castle and a cozy terrace
Through Park Sassin, you make a short, atmospheric circular walk through the village center. You walk past café L’Escale to the stately castle of Bomal and cross the stream Aisne via a charming little bridge.
Directly across the bridge, you walk towards the coziness. This is the moment to settle down at one of the charming local cafés or brasseries for a well-deserved Walloon beer or a hot coffee. There are plenty of choices with cozy places like L'Abreuvoir, Café Carré, and Café de La Poste.

After quenching your thirst, you walk back to the Bomal station via the large bridge over the Ourthe in just a few minutes.
