The “Zandvoorde Walking Route” follows the theme of “2014–2018 – 100 Years of the Great War” and tells the story of Zandvoorde during World War I. The village held an important strategic position due to its elevated location on the Central West Flemish Ridge. The unique view of the surrounding area, combined with the German defensive line, meant that Zandvoorde could not be liberated until the Final Offensive in 1918.
A map showing the walking route can be found at the starting point. The route is marked with hexagonal signs, and information is displayed on multilingual information panels along the loop.
