Bicycle route that roughly follows the boundaries of the province of Antwerp along the junction network. The inspiration for this route came from a proposal to rename the province of Antwerp to the province of Midden-Brabant. The Flemish majority parties N-VA, CD&V, and Open VLD wanted to rename the province of Antwerp to Midden-Brabant in November 2014. In their view, it was logical within the framework of the disempowerment of the “big cities” Antwerp and Ghent. Cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants can withdraw from the province and exercise provincial powers themselves according to the government agreement. In this case, it would be absurd for the province of Antwerp to retain that name, it says.
