Terrils and mining heritage in Beringen

In Beringen-Mijn you will find both the Flemish Mining Museum and the nature reserve Mijnterril Beringen, as well as one of the most beautiful mining residential areas in Limburg.

The Flemish Mining Museum (the starting point of this walk) is located in the former mining buildings of the "Charbonnages de Beeringen", which were closed in 1989.
The residential area of Beringen is a small town with a real mining cathedral, a mountain stadium, a casino, and beautiful family homes for the miners and staff.
The large Mijnterril is an extensive dump complex and a Flemish nature reserve. It is equipped with walking trails and has an extraordinary flora. From the top, you can enjoy a wide view of the entire mining region all the way to Holland!
The small Terril has been transformed into an "adventure mountain," including a mountain bike course.
Finally, in Beringen-Mijn, you can also visit the mosque and enjoy Turkish cuisine.
