Gaasbeek Daan Vervaet walk

Leaving the Oud Gaasbeek (Recommended for a regional beer or a sandwich on the cheese plate) you follow the gnomes.
They take you along beautiful pieces of nature in Gaasbeek, Sint-Laureins, Berchem, Oudenaken and Vlezenbeek.

Exactly 20 years after the death of MP Daan Vervaet, the footpath that bears his name has been traced by the Flemish working group De Vrede.

In 1995, the Flemish working group "DE VREDE" asbl traced a hiking trail that bears its name and winds between Gaasbeek, Berchem-Saint-Laurent, Oudenaken and Vlezenbeek.

As a politician and a human being, Daan was very concerned about the problems of agriculture. He was a co-founder of the Gaasbeek Farmers' Market, the first of its kind in this region. In addition, he took various initiatives that led to the protection of the Groenenberg estate and the upgrading of small landscape elements.

For this reason and also because of its small size, it received the friendly nickname "Green Forest Gnome" in parliament. This walking trail has been marked with wooden dwarfs that are now in need of renovation. Soon, a few dozen beautiful weatherproof gnomes will allow hikers to enjoy the natural beauty again on this 9km walk.
