The Lommel Sahara is a 193 ha nature reserve. In the beginning of the 20th century, sand extraction was carried out on a large scale in this area. Until 1940 there was also a zinc factory. After the 2nd world war, coniferous trees were planted and today the sand pits are filled with water. Thus, the ponds are silent witnesses to human activities of the past. Or how man could give something back to nature ... and got a beautiful walking area.
