In picturesque Gijzenzele you walk along local pedestrian and car-free roads. You will pass eight bunkers that are now silent witnesses of the Battle of Gijzenzele during the May days of 1940. Along the course, six beautiful panels with information about this bloody battle were placed in Gijzenzele and neighboring Kwatrecht. During that battle, the German attacker was stopped for three days.
The information boards were created with the support of the Heritage Cell Viersprong Land van Rode, Bistro Onder den Toren and the Vierhoekhoeve.
