The route starts at the large Wesertalsperre car park. I advise you to follow the route clockwise, in order to go down the long road between Baraque Michel and Eupen (sometimes a lot of traffic can be on the way here), and enjoy the two climbs without a car, namely:
- the ascent of the Wesertalsperre at Hohes Venn (High Fens),
- the ascent from Dedenborn to Forsthaus Rothe Kreuz.
In addition to the above climbs, you also get a short challenging climb (1 km) (max. 16%) in Germany passing through the Tiefenbachtal, and the ascent to the village of Kalterherberg from the Perlenbach valley.
Germany leaves for Belgium via the Vennbahn, a paved cycle path over an old railway line. You leave this cycle path after 13 km in Weywertz and then after passing through the Warche valley (500 meters above sea level), climb gradually to the highest point in Belgium: Signal de Botrange (694 meters above sea level). Via the Baraque Michel, you descend to Eupen and then return to the Wesertalsperre dam by climbing.
