CYRUSE, cycling circuit in the Rulles and Semois Valleys

This network of nodes shows a beautiful region, between the forest of Anlier and the neighboring Gaume. From Marbehan station, our route becomes "teasing" and presents us with beautiful curves and hills that we can manage without too many problems. From Mortinsart to Nantimont, the CYRUSE network takes us to Habay-la-Vieille, a pretty village near Habay-la-Neuve. Cycling along the ponds, we discover an old industry. It had its moments of glory in the 17th and 18th centuries, thanks to the exploitation of iron ore and the foundries of La Trapperie, Pont d'Oye, Châtelet and Bologna. The lush forest provided fuel for foundries (charcoal) and Rulles for hydropower. The decline of this industry began in the first half of the 19th century, with the evolution of techniques. The steam engine replaced hydropower and coke replaced charcoal. Athus, Longwy and Seraing, in turn, had a moment of glory ... On the way back, shortly after Nantimont and on the Mageroy plateau, rise the ruins of the Gallo-Roman villa of Mageroy. It was an important agricultural operation from the 1st to the 4th century. We arrive in Villers-sur-Semois, which is lounging in the young Semois. Another river, the Rulles, winds through the plain. We follow him, shortly after Ansart, to return to Marbehan.

Difficulty: A pleasant journey of 43 km, with some demanding hills. Return to Habay-la-Neuve.

Departure: At Marbehan station, follow the direction of exit 3, at the foot of the street in front of the car park, Place de la Gare.

Signage: Follow junctions 3,1,6,5,6,1,2,4 and 3.
