Sart Campaign

In the High Fens, many small streams and mountain rivers take their surface. They descend frantically, forming valleys and canyons. The Sart-lez-Spa circuit enters this beautiful setting.

We leave on the beautiful village square of Sart-lez-Spa, which is decorated with a platform. We find ourselves on a hill and descend quickly to the valley of the Hogne. Below, the passage to Royompré undoubtedly shows one of the most beautiful landscapes in the region. We cross a bend and follow the course of the river.

The road is sometimes very steep on the hillside, it looks like a photo of the high mountains. To reach Solwaster, we climb the rocky plateau where the brownstone village relaxes.

The houses are built with blocks of sandstone or limestone, or half-timbered. When we cycle through the village, we see low houses with narrow windows and thick walls, which testify to the harsh climate of this high plateau.

From Maison Fagne, the circuit winds to the heights of Spa and passes through Malchamps airport via the forest of Hartai. Below Stockay the trail is very pleasant and we cross the Wayai, a stream that passes downstream through Spa. A last bet to return to the Sart-lez-Spa concludes this course.

Route type: Few roads and difficult paths.

Type of bike: Mountain bike recommended.

Difficulty: A journey of 23 km, pleasant along wide roads to the beautiful valley of the Hogne. Along the road, however, there is a difficult slope to pedal to Solwaster.

Children: From +/- 15 years.

Departure: On the village square of Sart-lez-Spa, take the rue des Trois Fontaines and go down next to the motorway.

Signage: Follow the mountain bike signs of circuit n° 12 (triangles and red circles).

Parking: Place du village du Sart-lez-Spa, near the Perron.
