Ondenval, a virgin region of the High Fens

This trail allows you to discover a varied landscape and an immaculate Amblève, an Eldorado for mountain bikers and nature lovers.

In the village we follow the rural road that quickly disappears into the forests of Thirimont. The trail follows beautiful meanders between the pines and then plunges into the valley of the Amblève.

At this point, the river is very unspoilt and runs through a homeless area. Shortly after crossing a wooden bridge, a steep climb takes us to the Wolfsbusch. This coniferous and deciduous forest contains a wide variety of biotopes.

We feel like pedaling through a huge natural garden. Our wheels zigzag between roots, moss and rocks. After some technical trails, we arrive at the plain of Montenau, where we discover the Vennbahn in the countryside.

In 1880, the village of Montenau experienced a real gold rush. The search for gold continued after the First World War but in the end only a few small nuggets were discovered...

The route follows the ridge line and approaches Ondenval. We cycle one last time along the Amblève and dive into the Rohrbusch, another forest that surrounds the village with its unspoilt nature.
