Landscape
This landscape once belonged to the Scheldt valley and was used alternately for centuries as pasture or as a defense against flooding. Sporadically, storms caused dike breaks, which also regularly flooded the area unintentionally. The landscape today lies between the higher Kempisch Plateau and the elevated harbour. As a result, it became isolated from the Scheldt.
