You walk along the route of the "Fosttreintje," which brought miners from Zottegem and the surrounding area to the Borinages (Hainaut coal mines). Hence the name Miner’s Path. The Miner’s Path in the Flemish Ardennes is the paved part of the former railway line Zottegem - Brakel - Elzele (Ellezelles). The railway line was discontinued in 1963. Since 1978, a section (from Slijpstraat in Sint-Goriks-Oudenhove to Opbrakel) has been made available as a recreational path for walkers and cyclists.
