The Route of Flanders offers the hiker the entire sample book of the Flemish landscapes. The itinerary gives the opportunity to really explore your own country, from west to east, from Heuvelland to Leuven. Your steps lead you through a landscape of vast fields, forests and hills. Forgotten villages and charming shores are in your way. Historic cores are never far away.
GR 128 is an international road with the first 175 km through French Flanders, starting from Wissant on the French Opal Coast and a branch in Germany (terminus Aachen).
This variant provides a connection with Sint-Truiden station. It also takes you by a shorter route through Sint-Truiden to the Roman road at Brustem. The variant does not pass through the historic centre of Sint-Truiden. Nevertheless, a city tour is worth an extra day.
