An unknown gem of the Westhoek is undoubtedly the listed village core of Houtem: residential houses, church, and rectory in and around the walled cemetery. The name of the circular walk refers to the builders of the rectory, which was constructed as a refuge outside by the Norbertines of the Abbey of St. Niklaas in Veurne. The Flemish Renaissance architecture made of brick reveals the building period of the 17th century (1617). The hilly and flat landscape along this path will undoubtedly delight walkers. The theme of the poetry panels is 'Travel and Borders'. The retreat as a destination for relaxation and the national border with France shaped the poetry theme.
