Go to the church of Saint-Martin (V), the church of the village of Morialmé, district of Florennes. For GPS: intersection of rue Royale with rue du Moulin in Morialmé. Go down the stairs in front of the church and turn left, not on the gravel track, but on the lower asphalt track. Ignore Rue de la Montagne, Grand Rue and Rue des Halles on the right and walk straight on Rue Croix Meurice. After 300 meters, turn left into Rue Croix Biston and continue for 250 meters at the fork on the right into the Vieux Chemin de Walcourt. The asphalt will soon become a wide terrain course and offers you a beautiful wide view of the untouched countryside. After a kilometer you walk next to the edge of the forest and another 400 meters you enter the forest and you immediately have a picnic area on the left. Walk left, not on the first road but on the second right after the picnic area. After 700 meters, skip the exit for Fraire, continue on the main track on the left and turn right after 100 meters. After 750 meters, you have a shelter on the left and an information panel on the Forêt des Minières. Walk here to the left and 600 meters further to the T-junction on the right. After 850 meters, turn left onto a narrow and bumpy forest road. This takes you after 400 meters on a wider gravel road.
Go left here and after 80 meters right. After half a kilometer, you get out of the forest. Ignore all secondary roads and walk straight. The slightly hilly landscape is again very green, wide and calm. The wide field road makes a wide turn to the right, then to the left and finally to the right again. Turn left 50 meters after this last bend on a wide, steeply sloping gravel road (right east). The gravel road eventually becomes paved and takes you into the built core of Saint-Aubin. At the end of the track, turn left and walk along Rue de la Bruyère and Rue A. Boulvin to Saint-Aubin Church. Pass the church, then left and get off. In the bend is a Banal Oven or "medium oven", a village oven, so to speak.
Ignore all left and right exits at the T-junction. Turn right here (direction Philippe ville) and after 50 meters turn left over the stream and then along the water. On the right you can see the impressive rear facades of a large old square farmhouse. The street soon begins to rise considerably. Once at the top, turn left into Rue des Fermes. (Ignore Rue des Battis and Rue du Bois de Roeulx on the right.) After about one kilometre, turn left towards Piscine and continue right for another 500 metres towards the Cultural and Sports Centre. Cross the parking lot on the other side of the building. There is, among other things, a cafeteria. Descend and cross the stream along a pedestrian bridge, then cross the park to Florennes Castle. Pass the castle on the left and go up and then immediately right to the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville with town hall and collegiate church of Saint-Gangulphe. Walk next to City Hall on Rue Montagne de la Ville and after 100 metres* turn right onto Rue Ruisseau des Forges.
Ignore Rue du Calvaire and Rue Saint-Jean and continue straight until you reach a tunnel under an old railway track. Go under the tunnel and then left. After 800 m, turn left onto the narrower asphalt track and 200 metres further left at the fork. After one kilometre at the T-junction, walk to the right along the edge of the forest and 150 metres further to another T-junction on the left. Soon you will see a beautiful swimming pool on the left and an even larger open water feature on the right, remnants of the old mining activity. Walk, once back on the asphalt, to the left. After a kilometre and a half, you will arrive at the N975. Turn right and immediately turn left towards the Grand'Place de Morialmé with the Town Hall and the Walkers' Monument, a monument to a folk procession that is over 160 years old and inscribed on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List since 2012.
(*If you want to shorten the walk, do not turn right and you will find a bus stop 100 m further down Rue de l'Abbaye where every hour a TEC bus will take you back to Morialmé in a few minutes.)
Please note that from 1 October to 31 December, drift hunts can be organised on weekends and forests may not be accessible.
