Go to the square in front of the church of St. Peter Voeren. With the church and commandery on your left, start towards exit 426. Ignore the street on the left until you reach the trout farm and turn right into Crutzberg. On the way next to the bus shelter is the Sainte-Anne chapel (1730). At the first intersection, turn right towards Veurs and Remersdaal. Continue cycling through the countryside and hamlet of Veurs, then head to the Magnebos.
After a difficult climb, you arrive at the N648. Cross it and get off at the centre of Remersdaal. You enjoy a beautiful panorama. You pass the remains of De Hoes Castle, the castle farm and the church and continue cycling on the Teuvenerweg, towards Leuven. At exit 426, leave the Homburg road on the right and continue straight towards exit 427. You pass under the railway bridge and turn in front of Obsinnich Castle, today Castel Notre-Dame, turn left towards Leuven. You pass the Leuven nameplate and arrive at exit 427. Continue straight towards exit 428. With a steep climb, you will pass the holiday home Begijnenhof, The Kings Head Inn and Herberg Moeder de Gans to the T-junction of the Church of Leuven.
Turn left, then right around the church and continue to a dangerous intersection. Continue straight, direction Slenaken and Nurop. You wind down to exit 428. After a short climb, you arrive at a round square with a tree and a field cross and you are at junction 428. Turn left toward exit 429. You will pass the Wijndomein Pietershof manor and between the orchards to the crossroads of De Plank. De Plank is the largest town in Voeren that has ever been a municipality. Just right and immediately left, so almost straight. Then take the first road on the right and climb gently through the agricultural landscape with beautiful views. Continue cycling to the junction with border post number 21, a white chapel and junction 429 in Ulvend, a Limburg hamlet that lies on both Belgian (Sint-Martens-Voeren) and Dutch (Noorbeek) territory. Just left and at 't Bakhuis immediately right, direction exit 430. You pass the Hof van Ulvend, in which luxury holiday homes are located. At exit 430, you drive straight on the car-free road, towards exit 431. It goes almost flat.
Hands on the brakes
You literally pedal across the border until you reach terminal 22. Then you cycle in Belgium. Kattenroth is called the road and you pedal through the Alten Broek nature reserve. You walk through the forest and past some picnic areas and arrive at a farm. Here you are warned in two languages that you have to go down a steep slope with a winding route. Keep your hands on the brakes, because without kicking, it descends at lightning speed, through hollow roads with sharp turns and possibly walkers. You arrive at a road, which you follow on the left, after the café De Wandelaar. Don't worry about side roads and follow Vitschen until you reach a wide street. Follow it on the right until exit 431 in the centre of 's Gravenvoeren. Left. The road becomes hollow and you go up to exit 422. Take the uphill road on the left, towards exit 423.
When you get off the hollow road, you see some football fields on the right and you can go down for a while. Then you climb between two large orchards to the Steenbos Chapel (1846), built with the remains of an excavated Roman villa that previously stood there. Just after Steenboskapel, you will arrive at exit 423 and continue by bike straight to exit 424. At a crossroads with a cross, you continue straight ahead and arrive at a chapel (1914) on a priority road. You follow it on the right on a separate cycle path to the centre of Sint-Martens-Voeren. This is where the bike path ends and you continue pedaling along the road.
At exit 424, choose direction 425. The signage takes you past a statue of the Sacred Heart to a railway viaduct that is part of the Tongeren-Aachen line, built by the Germans during the First World War. Pedal underneath towards Sint-Pieters-Voeren and immediately take Berg, a road for local traffic. After two left turns, you go up in front of the Hostellerie De Cantarel. Continue cycling straight between the meadows. She is now moving into trout farming. But you don't go.
At the fork, you cycle to the right and pass Veldhoeve Holiday Home, a renovated half-timbered farmhouse. You pedal further through the reef of the Commanderied. Where the asphalt ends, the road turns left towards the Commanderie. Pedal straight on the narrow path for cyclists and pedestrians and climb to the T-junction. Turn left and pedal to the next T-junction. You are now at exit 425. If you only want to go around the Voerstreek, you can pedal left here to the starting point. You then made a journey of 25 km.
Want to keep cycling? If you want to take the loop through the Land van Herve, turn right and continue straight on the N608. Turn left, direction Aubel, after the castle of Magis. Take the first street on the right and go down towards Aubel. You can enjoy a magnificent panorama with in the middle the village where the "real cork syrup" is made. Turn right onto the first street. This is the rue du Vieux Tilleul. Follow it to the triangular square T-junction with a tree. Turn left here. At the end of Schaens, turn right. You now descend on the winding N649 to Val-Dieu Abbey 5 without worrying about secondary roads. You can do this on a dolomite path for cyclists and pedestrians, which is separated from the roadway by poles. To the right of the track is Le Moulin du Val-Dieu, to the left the abbey with the church, the Grande-Hostellerie, the Casse-Croûte and the abbey shop. At the crossroads after the abbey, turn right towards Mortroux. You are now pedaling on a wide paved road without a bike path. Fortunately, the traffic is not too bad.
You cycle along the Bois des Houillères and follow the Berwinne for a while. Ignore the first road on the left and go up the path diagonally to the right, parallel to the main road, towards Fort d'Aubin-Neufchâteau. Fêchereux is the name of the street. Climb between meadows with fruit trees until you can take Les Waides, a road for local traffic, on the right. It continues hilly and winds through a meadow landscape with a magnificent panorama on your right. At the fork you continue to follow Les Waides straight, on the right it is a dead end. You pass a large farm and at the next farm you follow Larbois on the right. You climb a hollow road between the meadows and are then rewarded with a gigantic panorama. At the crossroads, follow the N608 on the right, direction Aachen and Vaals. You cycle between two orchards and turn left into Rullen. Beyond the Rullen nameplate, it continues on a narrow paved road for local traffic between meadows and fields. At the crossroads with a solitary tree and left and straight on a gravel road, follow the paved road on the right between field and orchard. The name of the street changes to Brabant and you pass a closed farm. Brabant becomes Drink and you leave a street on the right. Via Zwaen you cycle to the T-junction. Now follow the Sint-Pietersstraat on the left and cycle via exit 425 to the starting point at Sint-Pieters-Voeren.
