The Herou Nadrin

Nadrin is located between La Roche and Ardenne and Houffalize. The walk starts and ends in the car park of the hotel Le Belvédère, at the end of the Reu du Hérou (5 hours walk). The hotel and watchtower have been closed for some time. You continually follow the winding Ourthe. Along the way, you will pass the historic site Le Cheslé and at the very beginning, you will be traced on a fantastic view of the rocky peaks of Hérou. The alternative path on Le Hérou, I did not indicate it on the map, offers very beautiful panoramic views of the Ourthe. To follow this path, pass in front of the Belvedere Hotel and the next hotel from the car park. Ignore the first path on the left and walk straight into the forest, you stay on the left and immediately arrive at the rather heavy path on Le Hérou. A little further you arrive at the vertical descent to the bank of the Ourthe. Below you are immediately on the path I indicated on the map, go right for the rest of the walk. The vertical descent, using a chain, is spectacular, but on my last visit there were 2 loose anchors, so be very careful. In case of doubt, you can also follow the normal hiking trail to the Ourthe. To find it, go up a little towards the parking lot and take the path you just ignored, which is now on your right and it is also the road I indicated on the map. It is best to do the walk at low water level, at high tide a number of passages on the way to the shore are difficult to take. A GPS is not an unnecessary luxury, at first the road is explicit, but after Le Cheslé you continually change paths and without help the right path is not always easy to find. If you don't have GPS, you can walk the walk in the opposite direction, I've found that the sequence of hiking trails is easier to find this way. In March 2018, a wolf was spotted in this region (the village of Bérismenil). Coincidentally, we walked this walk that day and on the way, on a small side stream of the Ourthe, we came across a freshly eaten carcass of a half-adult wild boar. In the evening, on the way back by car, we heard on the news that nature conservation associations had spotted a wolf in Berismenil that day, it suddenly became very quiet.
