Description by the author

Appointment at the village square of Gestel, part of Berlaar and until before the merger operation, the smallest municipality in the province. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most beautiful village centers in Flanders. With the Gothic St. Lambertus church and the columnar pillory (1779) on your right, you start.

With your back to the church, you leave to the right into Rameyenstraat, which you follow to the left. Continue straight through the intersection into Legrellestraat. On the right you see the imposing Witte Hoeve and a little further the 16th-century Gestelhof. Continue cycling to the end of the road where you take the Kesselsteenweg on the right, direction Kessel, until you reach the bridge over the Grote Nete. Do not cross it, but follow the dike path on the left bank, downstream. Enjoy the beautiful Nete landscape until the dike path ends at a railway bridge over the river. Now follow the railway to the left. Make use of the first railway crossing, cycle around the Jezuïetenhof and then continue straight to the Netekanaal. You follow the channel to the left. On the other bank is Lier. You cycle under two bridges, along the Zuuthoeve.
2. As you approach a third bridge, turn left into Zuut. At the intersection with the chapel, choose straight ahead and at the chapel of the Heistraat you do the same. Cross the Itterbeek and continue cycling to the T. Turn left until you reach the crossroads with café De Blauwe Hoek. Follow to the left, direction Koningshooikt. You follow Tallaart and at the intersection with the electricity cabin you cycle straight ahead. Through Bossen, a beautiful drive with two beautiful farms, you come to a T. Turn right in the Beekstraat and follow until the next T. Turn left in Beukheuvel and continue straight until the intersection with tavern De Seats. Turn right onto Berlaarbaan, direction St.-Katelijne-Waver.
3. Then turn left into the first street, the Boterhoek. Follow this winding road towards Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver, also known as Torekens-Waver. You can immediately see why! The asphalt turns into a concrete road and at the fork at cycle junction 48 follow the Erfstraat on the left until you reach the Uilenlei. Turn left again and on the T follow Zoetewei to the right until the end. On the right you notice an old mill hull. Turn left and immediately take the Peter Michielslei on the right. Follow it until you can take the second street on the right, the Stompaarshoek. At the end of this winding road, turn left into the Bredestraat. Ignore all side streets and cycle into the territory of Beerzel. You arrive at the Berlaarbaan. Just turn left and immediately right into Steenstraat. At the end turn right and at the intersection follow the cycle path to the left until the traffic lights. On the left you see the church of Berlaar-Heikant.
4. Cross the busy Lier–Aarschot road and continue cycling along the Isschotweg cycle path, towards Itegem. Opposite the gate of Castle Isschothof, turn left into Hanssenslaan. At the first crossroads you can see castle La Garenne on the right, between the trees. Here you cycle left into the Keldermansschransstraat, a beautiful winding road between the meadows, past the Keldermansschrans (1940). At the end, follow the cycle path to the left and after 1 km turn right into Hertstraat. Don't worry about side roads. Just past the Thorens farm you come to the Bevelsesteenweg. Left. At the end turn left again, onto the Gestelsesteenweg, direction Berlaar. Then take the first road on the right, which after 300 m becomes the Rameyenstraat, direction Gestel. You will cycle past the fairytale Hof van Rameyen, a moated castle from the 13th-14th centuries, rebuilt in 1696 and fully restored in 1888 to the standards of the late 17th century. It has a 13th century fortress tower, slender, round corner towers, an 18th century farmhouse and an entrance pavilion from 1701. Ignore the side road on the left and admire the Neerhoeve on the right. You'll be back in Gestel in no time.
