Description by the author

The brand new Duvel route of brewery Duvel Moortgat takes you to De Steenschuit, a social employment project where replicas of historic ships are made. There is also an eatery attached to it, 't Steencayken, where you can eat and drink something tasty every day, except Tuesday, from 12 noon. The Hof van Coolhem is also located along the route. In May, the annual asparagus event 'asPUURSge' takes place. Not to be missed!

Brewery Duvel Moortgat renewed its Duvel route. This new cycle route is dedicated to the four main ingredients of beer (water, hops, yeast and malt) and is fully linked to the cycling network of the province of Antwerp.
2. Appointment at the parking lot of bistro The Boathouse in the Beenhouwerstraat in Heindonk, with a view of Bloso Hazewinkel (currently difficult to reach due to road works, better take the 2nd departure point at the Hof van Coolhem). You take the path to the left of The Boathouse (open from 11 am, closed on Mondays), and arrive at the Bloso domain. Cycle to the right of the large boating pond 1. If you leave at the bloso car park, keep the boating pond to the left. Cycle along the water sports track until you can leave the domain on the right via a concrete road and through a gate. You enter the Stuyvenbergbahn and follow it to the left. On the right is sailing pond De Bocht. Further on you pick up on the cycling junction network of the province of Antwerp and cycle towards 39.
3. Bridge of Sighs Under the railway you come to the Willebroekse Vaart, which you follow to the left until the bridge of Willebroek, sung by Wannes Van de Velde. Just like him, you could stand in front of this Peace Bridge, better known as the 'Bridge of Sighs' (due to temporary road works, it is best that cyclists get off here). You are now at junction 39. Cycle across the bridge and turn right immediately afterwards. Follow the canal, direction 83. Turn left into Torenstraat. The signposts lead you past the former brewery De Ster, where food and talk café 't Poussecafé is now located, and further through Willebroek until you can turn right into the dead-end Kreweg (ok for cyclists). You cycle under the A12 and follow the Kreweg to the right at the junction. The railway over and on along the Bosbeek to junction 83. Turn right here, direction 35. In Sauvegarde just before café De Jonge Beloften turn right into the Gasthuisdreef, to the railway. Cross it via two sasjes and continue cycling to the center of Ruisbroek. You bend past the former town hall, now museum De Bres, and continue past the church to the Sea Canal Scheldt-Brussels. Climb up the dike at water ski club Clothilde and follow the canal to the left, towards Scheldt. You will pass an information board about malt, because malthouse Albert is located on the sea canal. This is the largest malt factory in Europe with an annual production of 256,000 tons. At junction 35 follow the Vliet, direction 36. An 80 m breach was made here in 1976. The Vliet was subsequently made tide-free. In Eikevliet, choose direction 37 at junction 36. After café Den Dam, turn right into a street and you come via an inner dike on the Kleine Amer, to junction 37.
4. Asparagus From there it goes towards 82, past the Hof van Coolhem with brasserie. This 13 ha domain - including bee garden, historic garden, asparagus garden and info trail Bertje Coolhem with 30 didactic signs - is a second official starting point of the Duvel route. This is where the annual asparagus event 'asPUURSge' takes place in May. Continue along the railway to junction 82. Now follows a less beautiful part, towards 84. Cross the N16 via the bicycle tunnel, take the roundabout with the copper brew kettles on the Dendermondsesteenweg and cycle through the village of Breendonk to junction 84 at the Duvel Depot (visit: via website) and the Duvelshop (open on Saturdays from 2 pm to 6 pm). Here attention is paid to the theme 'yeast'. Continue straight ahead, direction 86. Past the brewery to the traffic lights of 'Ssst... here den Duvel' ripens and on the other side onwards, towards Tisselt. Via the quiet Wolvenweg to the sea channel, which you follow to the left. At junction 86 in Tisselt you continue to follow the canal towards 39 at the Bridge of Sighs from earlier. Cross the bridge and immediately turn left, direction 38. You follow a bit from the beginning, in the opposite direction. Then past nature reserve Broek De Naeyer and a container terminal back to the canal, which you follow along the marina to picturesque Klein-Willebroek.
5. By foot ferry At junction 38 direction 28. You reach that junction after you have crossed the Rupel with the foot ferry. From the Rupel you have a beautiful view of Boom and Klein-Willebroek with an old Lamot brewery on each side of the river. Cycle from Grand Café Kaai towards 26. Via the Hoek district you arrive at junction 26, at the shipyard where the Steenschuit was built. Here you choose direction 50. You climb up the dike and pass eatery 't Steencaycken, behind which stone barge Clotilde is located. At 't Steenckayken the theme 'hops' is highlighted. On the other side is castle De Bocht. Left Terhagen with museum de Rupelklei (open: 2nd weekend May to 3rd weekend September, on Sat and Sun from 2 pm to 5 pm) and sports hall De Klamp. In Rumst under a porch crane of the Van Cauwenbergh company. At junction 50 you have to get off the dike to cycle past the ferryman's house. The ferry is no longer there, but on the other side is the jetty in Heindonk. You cycle past the beautiful municipal park and tavern (currently under reconstruction) De 3 Rivieren (Nete + Dijle = Rupel) and then cross the Nete at junction 51 via one of the impressive bridges for cyclists. Via the second you come to junction 52 on the other side of the Dijle. Continue towards 94 (at the Zennegat) and there towards 79. You follow the Dijle upstream and from the Zennegat, where the Leuven canal and the Senne flow into the Dijle, you do the same with the Senne. Here attention is paid to the theme 'water'. Continue cycling over the dike, leave the Zennehoeve on the right and descend the steep path towards 78 at junction 79. Cross the village square of Heffen and follow a church path on the other side. Then via quiet roads to junction 78. Now follow direction 52. Next to restaurant 't Fonteyntje you cycle into Het Broek and through this beautiful nature reserve (675 ha) to the rowing pond of Hazewinkel.
