Description by the author

A bike ride at the foot of the Flemish Ardennes through picturesque villages, past castles and windmills.

1. Appointment at the Market in Kruishoutem. With your back to the neo-Gothic church, you leave to the right into Kerkstraat. At the first intersection, take the Kasteelstraat on the right until you reach the late Renaissance castle Ayshove. Leave the domain on your left by cycling right into the Colijnstraat. At the end of the street, take the Wedekensdriesstraat on the left. Keep following it until it turns into the Nachtegaalstraat. Cycle straight ahead for a while and stay in the Nachtegaalstraat when she goes 90° to the left. Always pedal straight ahead, over the intersection to the T-junction. Here you send to the right in the Keitelstraat. And again you cycle straight on until you reach a T-junction where you take left. The Wannegemstraat takes you to the village of Huise. You cycle past the Huisekoutermolen, a 16th-century open standard mill that sometimes still works.
2. Keep the church on the right and cycle to the Lange Aststraat. Pedal a little straight ahead and then cycle right into a beautiful linden drive, the Korte Aststraat. You cycle around an ast, recognizable by the ventilation holes. At the church square of the ochre-yellow Mullem you cycle past the Romanesque church to the right to the cycle path next to the Molenbeek / Wachtbekken that you turn left. You follow the cycle path straight on until the concrete road. There you have to turn right and immediately left to the continuation of the cycle path next to the stream. At the end of the cycle path turn right to Lede. After the church you cycle right through Lede village and then the second street on the left, the Wannegem-Ledestraat. This street takes you to Wannegem. On the way you will pass Castle De Ghellinck, hidden behind a green screen. You can see the Schietsjampettermolen. He was transferred from Houtave in '81. The ranger then wanted to prevent that and shot twice in the air. Hence the name. Keep the church on the right and cycle through Wannegem to the Oudenaardsesteenweg (= the N459). Cross the stone road and continue cycling straight on in the Kleinestraat until you reach the intersection. Here you take the Galgestraat on the right. On the T you follow the Anzegemsteenweg on the left and the Pontstraat immediately on the right. Turn left into the first side street into Nokergatstraat.
3. On the next T turn left, Lindeknokstraat. At the end follow the Waregemstraat on the right until the next intersection where you cycle left into the Nokersedorpstraat. In Nokere you cycle past the Romanesque church down to the Spichtestraat on the right. You follow this to the Vijverdamstraat on the right where you have a beautiful view of the classicist castle. At the fork, continue to follow the Vijverdamstraat to the left. At the end, take a sharp right turn. You now cycle in the Waregemsestraat which you have to cross a little further to drive left into the Oude Molenweg. At the end you cross diagonally to the right into the Bredestraat. Pedal straight until you turn left into Zaubeekstraat. Keep following until before the reservoir. Here you cycle right into the dirt road. At the end, follow the Waregemsteenweg to the left. Before the bridge you turn right over the cobblestone road next to Herleghem Castle, with pond and water mill. Where the cobblestone road turns to the right, you cycle straight into the Spinnewielstraat, parallel to the motorway that forms the border between the industrial area and the beautiful rolling landscape. At the triangular square you turn left and then right into the Dertienveldekensweg. You cycle into the first street on the right, the Riemegemstraat. At the T-junction you cycle to the right in the IJzerbergstraat and then left, again in the Riemegemstraat, uphill. At the T-junction you cycle left into the Groenenweg. Keep cycling straight ahead, cross the intersection with the sometimes very busy Olsensesteenweg and continue straight into the street that is still called Groenenweg. Pedal over the intersection with the Knokstraat and at the next quadrangle you cycle right into the Beverhoekstraat. From here you can see the church of Kruishoutem which you can reach straight ahead via the Brug- and kerkstraat.
