Despite his frequent stays abroad and diplomatic missions, Peter Paul Rubens spent a large part of his time in Antwerp. "I would like to come back home and stay there all my life," he wrote from London in 1629. He received his education in his mother city and later built up his social network and circle of friends, he had many customers and he received prominent guests.
From 1 June until the beginning of next year, the city will organise 'Antwerp Baroque 2018.' Rubens inspires'. During this cultural festival, she presents a lavish programme 'that makes old and new baroque clash and bubble'. In four museums you can see key works from the Baroque, as well as masterpieces by contemporary masters, unique loans from national and foreign museums, and new work by contemporary artists.
