Bruegel tour around Peer

Appointment at the Markt (V) in Peer. With the kiosk and the pump with the pear on your left, you start and cycle past the colorful town hall and past the SintTrudokerk 1. Don't worry about side streets until you can turn right into Goudbergstraat. Via a bridge you cross the N73 and turn right into the Vinkenstraat. You are now on the cycle route network of Limburg and cycle towards 207. Ignore the road to the center of Peer on the right and continue cycling through the agricultural landscape of the Molhemstraat. Past farm Leanderhof you go into the forest and you pass the Ortolaan nature reserve. Through a lane and along some forest strips to junction 207. Here is an information column of the bicycle network and an image of the Parable of the Blind by Pieter Bruegel. Continue straight onto Voortstraat, direction 206. Cross the Peerderloop and cycle through a tractor lock after a bend, which makes the road car-free. At a triangular square with a picnic area under the trees, turn left. An idyllic spot, but when an F16 takes off at the airport of Kleine Brogel, 1 km away, the romantic is gone. Our tour continues through a meadow landscape with some farms. Ignore the road to the center of Kleine Brogel on the right and cycle past a picnic area to the N747. Cross over and cycle into the Groenewoudstraat. Just past the Pelterweg turn left and before a farm turn right until the T-junction. Turn left and 100 m further is junction 206. Take the Dommellaan on the right, direction 209, past a tree nursery, open agricultural landscape again and past a broiler farm. At the end of Herenthoek you cross a priority road to a narrow asphalt road, past farm Op den Dingenen and past a picnic area. Through the Kolisbos At junction 209 you continue cycling straight ahead, towards 205. You cycle with a large arch to the intersection with straight and right unpaved paths. Turn left and continue to the T-junction. Turn right on a narrow cycle path until you reach the crossroads at tavern De Kous. Cross the busy N748 and take the separate cycle path, to the left of the Torenstraat. 200 m further you come to junction 205 and to the parking of the walking area in the Kolisbos with a 65 m high fire tower 2 . You can climb up to halfway, higher is only for foresters. Also from 30 m you get an impressive view of the surroundings. Continue through the Kolisbos, direction 208, on the separate cycle path parallel to the Torenstraat and the Zavelstraat. After the Kolisbos a little further between fields and meadows until the N747. Follow it to the left, cross the Warmbeek and take the Winterdijkweg on the right. Follow it along an SME zone and turn right onto the first road. At the first intersection, ignore the road to Kaulille center and continue cycling straight along the edge of a pine forest. On the T turn left into the forest. Goolderheide Keep following the asphalt road until you reach a chapel and a picnic area on a wide road. On the left is the center of Kaulille. Cycle right until you can turn left into rietweg. At the edge of the forest, take the asphalt road to the left and cycle past camping farm 't Delvenhof. You meander with the Rietweg between some farms to the crossroads with the Goolderheideweg. Right. Through a tractor lock and between holiday park Goolderheide and an SME zone. At the end of the wide asphalt road you come to a triangular square. Cross the intersection with the Brogelerweg, ignore the Goolderstraat on the right and continue cycling on a narrow road for local traffic until you can turn right into the Leukenstraat. You cycle past 't Wilbershof and 't Leukenhof and at the T-junction you turn left with the asphalt road and cycle through the Bergerheidestraat, towards the church of Reppel. At the Willibrordusschool turn right into the Zandstraat, back into the open landscape. Just before the football fields of Racing Reppel turn left and you will arrive at junction 208. On the corner is a Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes (Hiepekenshof). Here you choose left, direction 214. You will pass the old walled presbytery (1604) 3 and the Reppelmolen, now hotel de Watermolen, and turn right just before the church of Reppel. Across the street is café-eatery 't Kerkpleintje. You cycle along the wide Reppelerweg, cross the Abeek and turn left into the Bormanstraat. At junction 214 continue straight ahead, direction 23. In Gerdingen, the concrete turns into asphalt and you continue cycling on a wider road until you can turn right into the Palmenhofstraat. At the end of this narrow, winding asphalt road turn left into Truyenhofstraat. At the intersection with a chapel turn right into the Nieshofstraat until you reach the busy Peerderbaan (N73). Cross it and then follow the Heuvelstraat, past bicycle café and recreation resort Kempenheuvel and past a park with a chapel. At the next fork, take the Beukenhofstraat on the left and cycle into a residential area. You cross the Hans (road) and take a street where no cars are allowed. You cycle through a wall and past residential care center Gerkenberg to the N76. On the other side you cycle into the Kluisstraat. You wind around a dilapidated homestead and cycle past a cemetery. At the end of the Kluisstraat turn right, past the football field of SintBree. You cycle along the edge of the forest, turn left into the Berkenlaan and follow it to junction 23. Turn right here, direction 02. Through the Kipdorpstraat past an SME zone and left into the Kleine Neyenstraat. At the fork at a grove keep right and on the T follow the Neyenstraat to the right. Turn left and continue cycling through the open countryside with farms and a few bushes and along the football fields of Heidebloem Wijshagen. On the next T turn left and on the next T turn right until you reach the busy N76. Cross it via a sasje and continue cycling through the open landscape and along the Boenderbos 4 to junction 02. Turn right, direction 01. At the church of Ellikom take the Brogelerweg on the left. Cross the Abeek and you will arrive at junction 01. Children's games Choose left, direction 03 and follow the forest edge. You cycle along the Ellikomerdijk past Centerparks Erpekom, some images of children's games by Bruegel, which you can possibly try out, and a beautiful picnic area. Cycle past a triangular chapel and the Pieter Brueghel Primary School and at the crossroads follow the wide concrete road to the left, past the church of Erpekom and cross the Bree-Peer road. Continue cycling through the Mgr. Broekxstraat to junction 03 at the historic Broekxhof (already mentioned in 1492) 5. Choose direction 78, past the Nestenrover of Brueghel. Turn left at the T-junction. Cross a crossroads and via the Kapellekestraat you will arrive at the Duller chapel (1893). Turn right on a wider road and turn left with arrow 78. Cross the Dommel and a busier road and continue cycling on a piece of cobblestone road. At the fork, take the Broekstraat on the right. You can already see the Reus der Kempen. Where you have to follow the Kruisstraat on the left before junction 78, cycle straight ahead and follow the Peer-Centrum signs of the cycling network. Via a beautiful winding road you cross the Dommel again and continue cycling to the Markt in Peer.
