An adventurous bike ride with a show to say hello: the inclined plane of Ronquières. This boat lift can carry ships up to 1350 tons and decks with a slope of 68 m. On the 150 m high tower of this tourist attraction, you have a wonderful view of the surroundings. The rest of your bike ride is very varied. You cycle along forest trails and rugged paved roads; On some stretches, it navigates between pits and bumps. Your muscles are also put to the test: there are steep climbs and steep descents. Ideal for maintaining physical fitness!
Go to the Place des Grées du Lou in Oisquercq. With the church on your right, pedal along Rue de la Falize. You pass in front of the cemetery, cross the intersection with the rue de Virginal and continue by bike along the rue des Réservoirs. Beyond a water tank, it passes over steeply sloping cobblestones. Keep your hands on the brakes here! Turn left at the T-junction. Ignore the road on the right that plunges under the railway tracks, leave the rue d'Hennuières in front of you and turn left into the rue Peignies. You are now in the hamlet of Coeurq. It continues in front of some farms, between fields and meadows on a road that becomes hollow several times, until a wider road, which you follow on the right. Ignore the Saint-Antoine path on the right and continue cycling through the territory of Virginal-Samme. On the right, you see Le Grand Bois. Ignore a street on the left and continue cycling on Rue Rouge Bouton. Then take the first street on the right. Rue des Bois rises immediately steeply through a residential area. Cross a priority road and take the rue du Bois de la Houssiere, direction Ronquières. You are now cycling to the provincial border of Walloon Brabant and Hainaut. Continue straight until you can turn right with Rue des Aulnois into the forest. You descend on a hollow road through the forest, then walk along the edge of the forest and pass the agglomeration sign of Les Hennuières to a crossroads. Take the path of La Sablière on the left. Passing in front of a chapel from 1930, you return to the forest. At the Foya chapel of 1813, take a sharp left turn and continue into the Bois de la Houssière. You arrive at the rue de la Fontaine aux Boeufs and follow it on the right. The name immediately changed to Drève du Long Jour. Turn right at the first crossroads.
2. Pedaling to Mon Plaisir Follow the narrow Rue du Pire until you can turn left into the Drève des Chasseurs. It's 'worse' than Rue du Pire. The narrow paved road is in a miserable state and you can hardly enjoy the beautiful forest scenery, as you already have enough work to navigate between the wells. It continues winding and hilly, past a picnic area until you can take the alley of the Dimzelle on the right, towards Domaine Mon Plaisir, a playground for children with cafeteria for parents. You pedal straight towards a white house, turn left and pass the entrance of Mon Plaisir. Step out of the forest and continue through an agricultural landscape and along Dim'Zell's farm with a 17th century house and barn. Then take the first street on the right, Avenue de la Houssière, continue through a residential area. Continue straight until you turn left, on a playground, in the Chemin des Dames. Cross the N533 a little further and continue to follow this road until you reach an intersection with a chapel with a cross. Just left and immediately right, so almost straight, in the Avenue des Aubépines. After the Avenue des Chênes turn left and the Ferme de la Femme follow the road to the end. Left. Turn immediately left onto Avenue de la Hêtraie and continue cycling along a narrow paved road, which becomes hollow over a long stretch to an intersection. Take the chemin aux Loups on the left. It rises gently and immediately becomes hollow. Ignore a dirt road on the right and follow the edge of the forest until you can turn right into Rue de Triherée just before a water tank. You descend gently, pass a chapel and cross a grove.
3. Along the inclined plane of Ronquières At the fork, take rue Castia on the left, immediately with a beautiful panorama on the inclined plane of Ronquières. Descend into the bend of another road. Just straight, first going down, then a stream and going up to the church of Henripont. Turn right just after the church. Above the Place Aviateur Jean Croquet between the town hall and the church the rue de la Chapelle. Continue straight ahead and turn right at the end of the street. At the junction of the chapel Notre-Dame des Grâces (1701) choose the right (leave the road to Ronquières and the chapel). Going down, you get a beautiful view of the inclined plane again. Passed the sign Ecaussinnes-d'Enghien at the junction straight into the road for 'residents' and go down in the hamlet of Gaudis. Turn right here and left at the fork, the road with a limited height up to 3.80 m. You pass over a half-hollow road and a hollow road until you can pass a railway bridge below to the fork on the left. On the other side turn right, parallel to the old railway. You turn with the road to the right and then to the left. You can't see anything of the old railway here. In an old chapel with text, ignore a dirt road on the right, then take the first road on the left. Another railway bridge under and along some old buildings. Cross the Sennette and ignore the one-way road from La Dime campsite on the right. Turn right and continue at the crossroads, with Ecaussines Centre on the right, straight on Rue du Poirier. Continue to meander through the landscape and turn left at the crossroads, towards Ronquières. A little further, you pedal next to the inclined plane and leave the road below on the right. Continue to the end, with the church of Ronquières on the left. Cross the Brussels-Charleroi canal. Leave the path along the Old Canal on the right and pass the Belle-Vue café and the Ronquières football field. Follow the N533 until you can turn right onto Chemin de Boulou. At the fork, with the one-way street on the left, keep right and go up sharply further into Rue du Mont de l'Escaille. Then you can go back down and you arrive at a T-junction with the one-way road on the left just now. Ignore it. Now follow this road on the right. At the fork, turn right and go down to the Old Canal. Turn left there, not on the towpath, but on the street to the left of it. First gently, then firmly over a hollow road, after which you are rewarded with a magnificent 360° panorama. Ignore on the right the road to Coccotte, a farm where you can fetch eggs from free-range hens.
4. Cobblestones at the provincial border On the provincial border, ignore the chemin de Bornival and the chemin de Feluy and continue straight on the chemin de Ronquières, a paved road as in Paris-Roubaix. At the end of the T, turn left. Still paved, but of better quality. After a few turns you arrive at the fork with rue Félicien Canar on the right. 'Degraded road' warns a sign. Worse? No, it doesn't matter. Then continue straight on a narrow, slightly hilly paved road. You pass a beautiful white farm, skip a dead end road on the left and climb further on a priority road with a cell tower and a number of satellite dishes. Turn right and immediately left towards Ittre. From now on, there are another 9 km to the starting point, mainly on wide asphalt roads, where you will meet cars. Continue straight ahead and turn right at the roundabout, direction the center of Ittre. At the next roundabout, continue straight, direction Braine-le-Château. You go up the rue Montoisy passing in front of a white chapel with crucifix on the rue Haute. Ignore the secondary roads and at the fork turn left follow rue de Clabecq, direction Clabecq. You climb through the Bois d'Ittre and choose the arrow to Oisquercq at the next crossroads. Go further until you can turn left into the Drève du Vivier. Continue straight ahead and go down to the Brussels-Charleroi canal. Go through that and pedal right. On the corner is a chapel and in the garden next to it an "artificial bike". Then turn left, cross the bridge over the old railway and go up to the church.
