This is not a visit for the faint of heart: climbing is often and sometimes long and difficult. You even follow part of the Liège-Bastogne-Liège road, but in the opposite direction: descend along the infamous Côte de La Redoute. It is 1650 m long and has an altitude difference of 161 m. The average slope is 9.5% and the steepest sections 20%. The summit is located 35 km from the finish of the cycling classic. A wonderful journey through the green province of Liège, for which you have the best conditions.
1. Meet at Place Joseph Wauters in Sprimont. Exit with the post office on your right and pedal along Rue de la Liberté at the intersection with Café Gruslin. You leave the village, with a beautiful view of the village church. Leave the rue de Rouvreux and continue cycling between the meadows, direction Rouvreux. Ignore the rue du Tige on the left, ditto after the agglomeration sign of Rouvreux with the rue des Bruyères. At the first crossroads, turn left, go down briefly into Rue de Rabohaye. At the next crossroads, turn left again, direction Florzé and Sprimont, always uphill. Continue to follow the rue du Houmier until you reach the centre of Florzé. You will pass the church and the front gate and the castle road, where General Eisenhouwer stayed for several hours during the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Past a farm of 1861 straight at the intersection with the playground. Just before the N30 turn left into Rue A. Binet and at the junction of the municipal school continue to follow Rue A. Binet diagonally to the right until you reach the N30, with a large crucifix on the left. Cross the busy road and pedal to Rue du Tige. Then turn right onto Rue de Mackinhaye. At the end you almost reach the N30 again, but you take the street on the left. Along the Residence Le Mirabeau, you cycle away from the busy road. With a bend, you come to another road and follow it to the left. Ignore Rue des Trixhes on the left, turn with Rue de Warnoumont on the right and continue following Rue de Warnoumont along some spacious buildings. Further between the meadows, with a beautiful view on the right. At the first intersection, just behind the Sougné-Remouchamps nameplate, turn left. Past a cell tower, you have an impressive view on the right.
2. A piece of Liège-Bastogne-Liège You are now following part of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, but in the opposite direction. So you can descend, above the infamous Côte de La Redoute. At the war memorial, ignore a road on the right. From there, the riders go up the Col de La Redoute. You cycle straight ahead and go down to the highway. Follow it to the left, then underneath. Turn right, parallel to the motorway. You pass Playe's nameplate and ignore a side road on the right. On the left is an 1871 chapel with a crucifix on top. Continue straight until you reach a T-junction. Follow rue de Hotchamps on the left, direction Cornemont. Continue cycling to the busy N678. Turn right and pass the Aldi in the first street on the left, rue de la Gendarmerie, direction Blindef. You go down in front of the old gendarmerie barracks until you can turn left into Rue de la China, towards Blindef and Sendrogne. In a bend is a cross from 1879. Pedal straight through Blindef. On the left, the chapel of Saint-Hubert and the Holy Virgin (1762), a war memorial and a building from 1898. It climbs again, on a winding hollow road. Just after the Sendrugne agglomeration sign, at the junction on the left (straight) choose the rue de la Chéra, a street for local traffic. You follow the tarring to the rue de Sendrogne. Follow it to the left.
3. Panoramas Pedal on the motorway (E25), don't worry about secondary roads and cross the N30. Now follow Rue des Fosses. Ignore Mazeure Street on the left, cross an intersection and take Wachiboux Street, a road for farm traffic, diagonally on the right. Leave a secondary trail and pedal further on a hollow road and pass the Ferme de Wachiboux. In Dolembreux, you arrive at a crossroads and the road for limited traffic stops. Choose diagonally to the left and continue to follow Rue de Wachiboux. At the crossroads continue straight, direction Méry. Turn with the road on the left, the path of Goffes comes from the right. Don't worry about side streets until you can turn left onto Rue Jean Doinet. Beyond the church, the cemetery and St. Joseph's School to the end. Right. Ignore the Hedge of the Poor immediately on the left. Enjoy the magnificent view and turn right into Hautgné at the intersection with Betgné on the left. Go down between the meadows to Hautgné. At the T-junction, with a dead end on the right, turn left. Past the church (a little at the bottom on the left) you turn with the road on the right and, just before the sign at the end of Hautgné, take the hairpin bend on the left. At the next fork, with a farm vehicle road on the left, take the sharp turn to the right. You pass a few villas through the forest until the next fork. Turn left between two meadows and continue hilly with a beautiful panorama on the right. You start to go down and the road becomes very bad, with many pits and then unpaved.
4. Château d'Avionpuits Continue and after a bush you will arrive at the Château d'Avionpuits. Turn left here to see the castle and the impressive castle farm. 'Through the door' in the meadow, you have a beautiful view of the Ourthe valley towards Tilff, with Brialmont Abbey as an eye-catcher. A little further then turn left onto Kennedy Street. Turn left at the crossroads. You go up on a wider road, past the alley of the castle. At the fork, turn right into Rue de la Clissure, direction Fontin. Ignore a road on the right and turn with the street until the T-junction with a cross at the corner. Turn right towards Hamay. At the junction of Place du Vieux Tilleul, turn left onto Chemin de la Xhavée immediately after the one-way street. Don't worry about side roads, cycle past the church and leave the village on a hollow road. At the crossroads with the crucifix in the chapel straight into rue Père Maron. Going down you enjoy a beautiful panorama. After the agglomeration sign of Flagothier-La Haze, choose rue Flagothier at the junction on the left. Continue down to an intersection with a mirror. Turn right, direction Montfort, going further down by the rue des Vieux Moulins. Cross the mist in a bend and follow the beautiful valley. Then take the first road on the left, direction Chaply and Sprimont. The Buissonnière tourist route also goes in this direction. You go up and follow the rue de Lincé after the agglomeration sign of Chaply. Always follow the narrow paved road towards Lincé, first after a hamlet of Fays with agglomeration signs. In Fays itself, turn left, direction Lincé, Ménages and Sprimont. You descend by a hollow road. After a bend follows a steep climb through the rue de Fays. The view on the right is magnificent, but the climb remains more than difficult. In Lincé, you continue to ignore the side streets leading to a square. Turn right onto Rue Henri Simon. At the end turn right, direction Chanxhe. You can now go down for a long time and not have to worry about secondary roads until you arrive at the N678 with a bend next to the quarry -Préalle. Follow it for 150 m to the left and then turn right into Rue de Mirouille, a road for agricultural traffic. You follow the winding and vertiginous road through the forest for a long time.
