This hiking route (10.8 km) starts at the village square of Bavikhove. You walk through the valley of the Plaatsebeek to a first old arm of the Leie. Along the way, barns and redoubts remind of the region's rich flax harvest. Through pasture paths, moss, and grass paths, you reach a wooded area.
The shortened hike ends at the castle of Ooigem and then returns along the Leie.
The long hike takes you to the triple lock of Ooigem. A second old arm of the Leie takes you past the castle of Ooigem and the historic farmstead Munkenhof. The Old Leie hiking route offers a varied landscape combined with historical heritage.
