Walk quietly through the country of Mortagne

The Mortagne hiking network is located in the catchment area between the Leie and the Scheldt. Meet at the Stationsstraat car park in Zwevegem in front of house number 118 (V). Leave the car park on the left, you will soon find the first indication to KP 21. An information panel takes you to the old railway line from Kortrijk. You immediately find yourself in the green. At the end of this varied path, you will arrive at KP 21 on asphalt, where you turn right and continue following the indications for KP 20. Just before the canal, you cross the main road and walk down the edge of the canal on a narrow path with steps (KP 20). Follow the towpath on the right towards KP 19. Just before the bridge, you turn right onto the stairs. Once at the top, turn left twice in a row to cross the bridge (1). About 200 meters further, at KP 19, you follow the old railway tracks again on the left until you reach KP 27, where you turn abruptly left after a door. You descend further on the other side of the canal and follow the towpath for some time to KP 25. • The high shoulders show rare fauna and flora (many orchids!) and were created by the deeper excavation of the canal to replace the old tunnel. After a while, you walk along an old arm of the canal. At FP25, you will suddenly turn right, towards KP 26. You are now walking in the beautiful forest of Orveyt (2), laid out in the late eighties on an old clay dump. Here, too, you will find a large number of orchids. Continue straight after closing and follow the signs for KP 26. Be careful, after a mile through the forest, you take a narrow path to the left (well signposted) that takes you to KP 26. After closing, follow the paved road on the left, direction KP 28. • At the end of the road, turn right. At the height of a house on your right, take the narrow street, the Hoge Weg, on the left. This road turns into a narrow path that goes around a house. Disregard the "private road" sign. In a chapel, you cross a dirt road and come straight on a tiled path. Once on the asphalt, after a few meters, you take the grass road on the right and you arrive at KP 28. For the basic walk, read on *. Possible shortening Here you can shorten the walk by 3 kilometers by following the country road on the left at KP 28, towards KP 88. In a house, you take the paved road on the right. Possible extension At KP 30 you can follow an additional loop on the ridge with beautiful views. The walk will then be 18 kilometers long. In this case, take the road on the right until KP 31 and continue straight on the country road until you reach KP 32, where you arrive at a paved road with chapel. Turn left into Drielindenstraat, which after 700 meters, in a bend in the road, turns into a gravel road. You arrive at KP 33 where you take the dirt road on the left, with Molen Ter Klare (3) diagonally in front of you. This is how you get the FP 55. Follow here on the left (asphalt) towards KP 89. In a chapel you go to the right, after which you immediately arrive at KP 89. Here you go left towards KP 31. Turn right again and you will arrive again at KP 30, from where you can resume the normal route. Continue the basic KP 30 walk *The normal route goes left at KP 30, in the Marberstraat, towards KP 87. On the left in the distance you can see the outlines of the Kluisberg. You follow this winding road until you reach the Mortagnebos (4) with picnic table and information panel. Here, the poles of the KP 87 show you the way. After 700 meters, take a path to the right. At FP 87, you come from the forest. Turn left for a moment and immediately right again on a grassy road towards KP 88. On the paved road near a pike bench and information panel, turn left and at KP 88, where you join the shortened promenade, follow the signs for KP 24 on the right. • In front of a house on your right, turn left into a narrow road. At KP 24 you arrive at a picturesque drawbridge, the protected SintPietersbrugje (5) over the old canal. Now follow the signs to KP 49, cross the canal bridge and continue straight until you reach KP 23. Here, take the tile path to the right until you reach KP 22, where you cross the street and continue straight on to KP 21. At the end of the path, you go sharply to the left to take a path to the right passing an electric hut and a house. This path through the fields takes you back to your starting point.
