Spicy, sometimes vicious, climbs in the heart of the Ardennes. It also means enjoying the shade and coolness of the forest. The first part will barely leave you the Lesse, at the end the Lomme accompanies you a little on your way. You will then cross the provincial estate of Mirwart, known for its fish farm. Trout are raised here to release fry into the Ardennes rivers. The old castle of Mirwart is impressive, but not worth visiting. There is a hotel-restaurant on the estate, run by a Flemish couple.
1. Go to the Place de la rive gauche (Wellin side) of the Lesse in Chanly. You turn left onto a wide paved road. The road just off the Lesse leaves you for what it is. You choose the street next door and immediately start a vicious climb. Turn left onto N846. Ignore a street on the right and follow the priority road until you can turn left onto the road to Neupont. You get off at the hotel Le Père Finet. Turn left again, direction Neufchâteau and Arlon. Don't worry about secondary roads until you can take the road to Daverdisse on the right, in fact almost straight. It now winds and undulates through the valley of the Lesse, where you pedal right next to it. After a nice picnic area on the right, you arrive at a bridge on the left over the Lesse.
2. Here you leave the road and pedal directly into the forest. You now follow a path (parallel to the roadway but a little higher) for cyclists, cyclists and walkers. At the crossroads, you continue to pedal straight. Between the trees you can see the Lesse flowing. When the cycle path through the forest stops, cross the road and continue cycling along a path along the Lesse. Past a picnic area, the bike path is right next to the road. Ignore the road to Lomprez on the right and pass the Hotel Moulin de Daverdisse, an old water mill. Now you start a difficult climb to the center of Daverdisse. Ignore a side road on the left and turn left at the fork and right at the White House. Pass in front of the church and at the crossroads on the left, take the road to Redu. In the bend you leave the road to the restaurant Le Trou du Loup.
3. From the Lesse to Redu Go down with a few turns to the Franc Ri. Cross this stream and turn left. You can continue to descend towards the Lesse. You walk past for a while and then cross the bridge.
4. Now you start the climb to Séchery. Ignore the road to Mohimont on the left and turn right at the T-junction, direction Redu. At the next fork, turn left, with a nice view of ESA's satellite dishes on the right. Continue cycling between the meadows to the center of Redu. Turn right before the church. Ignore the road to Maissin on the right and leave the village by bike. After a traffic brake, head towards the forest and pedal to the N899 Rochefort-Bouillon.
5. Cross and climb towards Transinne. Ignore a secondary road on the left and at the junction with the chapel, follow the downhill road for local traffic. At the first intersection, with the route de Maissin on the right, straight, then a street on the left and turning left. You pass in front of the church of Transinne, direction Smuid. You pass the Monument Square with an impressive war memorial and cannons and continue to follow the arrows to Smuid. Cross the Dinant-Neufchâteau road and pass in front of Les Sapins campsite with a white canteen. On the bridge of the E411, then through the forest and on a traffic inhibitor to the center of Smuid. At the intersection with the chapel turn right then the first street on the left, direction Poix. You cycle between the Hostellerie des Tilleuls and the church.
6. Discover Mirwart Immediately after the hotel, turn left towards Domaine Provincial de Mirwart. Do not worry about secondary roads and continue to follow the signs for the provincial domain, between the meadows and on a hollow road. At a fork, an arrow leads you to the left at the entrance of the domain. Through a white door and in front of a beautiful welcome sign, you pedal through the forest. Don't worry about side roads and cycle to the idyllic Mirwart Fish Ponds. Pedal right on the Lomme and under the railway bridge. On the other side is the restored mill house of the old water mill. Next to the half-timbered house you start a steep climb to the T-junction at Mirwart. At the corner is a field cross. Our tour turns left, but it's worth pedaling to the right to see Mirwart Castle. Then pedal to the left of the church, direction Saint-Hubert. Ignore a road on the right and at the fork with the field cross on the left, choose the cul-de-sac. For Saint-Hubert, we must keep the right. You now begin an adventurous descent, as the road is in poor condition and becomes partly unpaved. Nothing for tubes, but quietly doable for all types of bikes.
7. On the Lomme Go down to the Lomme with a real ford. You can clearly see where farmers used to get into the water with a horse and cart and where they went out on the other side. Aux Cloyes is the name of this idyllic place. You can cross the Pont des Cloyes, a very old bridge, to the other bank. Best with the bike at hand, because on the other hand, the ground floor is about 30 cm lower! Then follow the narrow path to the crossroads at the rest bench. Here on the right, on a wide gravel road, parallel to the Lomme, direction Bure. Ignore a forest road on the right and turn left under the railway tracks. At the junction turn right, next to the railway tracks. The gravel road turns to asphalt and you turn left into the first road. It immediately increases sharply. Follow this road between meadows with beautiful views to the end. Turn right onto another road. You follow it with a sharp left turn. It is now a pure pleasure of impressive panoramas.
8. Don't worry about side roads, head back into the forest, pass a beautiful white forest house, and then continue along the edge of the forest to the T-junction, where the municipality of Tellin wishes you a safe journey in four languages. Right. After a left and right turn, leave the busiest road at the first opportunity to the left. Continue cycling to the Fosse Hawette intersection and take the road for local traffic on the right. You follow it between the meadows and through the forest to the crossroads of the church of Resteigne. Turn left towards Wellin. You dive under the E411 and continue cycling in front of the church of Chanly to the starting point on the Lesse.
