The hilly area around Wijtschate was the site of the Mine Battle on June 7, 1917. On that day, 19 deep mines exploded in an attack on the German positions. On this hiking trail, you can still discover some craters of these mines today. In and around Wijtschate, you will experience the history of the Mine Battle up close. Along the way, you will also pass by some military cemeteries and relics of the First World War while enjoying the beautiful panorama of this hilly landscape.
