The Houthulst Forest was the place where the Bakelandt gang hid. You pass through the municipalities of Langemark-Poelkapelle and Houthulst. You pass various types of landscape: the hill range of Klerken, the outskirts of the sand-clay region in the IJzerpolders, the valley of the Ieperlee. The bike tour starts at the town hall of Langemark, which is housed in the former castle. You ride along the old railway embankment and the Ieperleekanaal towards Merkem. On the way back, you ride along Klerken, Houthulst, the Vrijbos, and the Madonna district.
