For the 'Bicycle and Hiking Tour of the Month', a project of the Rural Guilds (www.landelijkegilden.be), which started in January 2018, this month we are heading to Limburg. We will be cycling in and around the first city of Belgium. This tour was not chosen randomly. Every year, the Rural Guilds of Tongeren organize the bicycle and hiking event 'Toeren rond Tongeren'. This cycling tour was one of the cycling tours of 2018.

Tongeren is a city in the southwest of Limburg and is located on the Jeker in the Haspengouw region. It is a place full of history and culture, founded by the Romans in 10 BC. The city breathes history. In addition to numerous Roman remains, there are also typical Haspengouw castles and square farms. The 44 km cycling tour begins in the center of the city. From there, one can explore the rural area and the beautiful villages surrounding the city.
