At the heart of this hike in the border region between Belgium and Luxembourg is the abbey ruin of Clairefontaine, founded in the 13th century by Ermesinde of Luxembourg. The ruins, with their spring, invite you to linger. The visit is free of charge. From there, it leads into the valley of Eisch and around an old dam complex, in some places even over Luxembourgish territory. The return path, if you want to extend the hike a bit, goes over the "Karlsberg" and through a deep deciduous forest area.
