3. Station Heide - Nieuwmoer / Gilbert van Schoonbekepad

Leg 3: Heide - Nieuwmoer station

The village of Kalmthout has no less than 3 train stations within a distance of 4km. We pass all three: Heide – Kijk Uit – Kalmthout. At the last we also pass the arboretum, take the time to walk through it, you won't regret it! After Kalmthout, the landscape changes and we enter a large former peat cutting area, which stretched beyond Roosendaal. Presumably all the peat had already been excavated here in Gilbert's time and he therefore had to seek refuge in bogs around present-day Veenendaal. Via a few beautiful sandy roads and along nature reserve De Wolfsheuvel we arrive in Nieuwmoer (Het Nieuwe Veen). There are two cafés to quench your thirst after the tour: Café De Turfsteker and Taverne Den Engel.

Fastest connection by public transport between start and end point: Nieuwmoer, stop Spreeuwstraat bus 670, (dir. Kapellen), get off at Kalmthout station. By train to Heide station (Kalmthout)
