At the beginning of the 17th century, the Hoogstraten-Turnhout region was an area that attracted many armies during the 80-year war. Peace only came after the famous treaty of the Peace of Münster. It is hard to imagine if you drive along this quiet route now, that in the 17th century this was one of the most turbulent and unsafe areas in Europe.
